"Painting a frightening picture of violence, greed and desperation, Bozzo reveals another growing crack in our fragile environment. Experts from across the globe make the convincing point that water may eclipse oil as the fuel for international conflict."

A couple of days ago someone put a DVD in my hands and told me to watch it! I didn't get to it for a couple of days... and you know, after watching the video I felt that I wasted those two days... doing what?!? And because the work was made a while ago, I feel somewhat cheated, like I could have been in a different mindset all this time, with a different attitude and respect for world water!

I live in the most beautiful provinces of Canada (British Columbia) and our clean fresh water is second to NONE in the world... but there are some trying to change that... and more yet trying to monopolize on it, keeping it from you and me. On a side note, any protests of privatization water are demonized as religious demonstrations... strange huh? I guess allowing someone the right to live at any stage of development has become a "religious" stand...

This documentary by Sam Bozzo is worth any price! Bozzo exposes the privatization of water for not only the profits, but for the annihilation of those who consume it for basic survival. Corruption in governments on every level use water to control populations, and when that fails... the military is used to snuff out protesters.

The basic right to survive has become a bloody battle over clean water...
one that CORPORATE GIANTS must not be allowed to win!

Do the world a favor and watch... "Blue Gold" World Water Wars.

21 months ago: I heard this saying: If the earth was made of gold, then people would be fighting for an ounce of earth.
It will be a fight to stop privatizing water once private business gets that idea in their head. Of course, it is already being done with Space Travel. I don't see the benefit of either one. Corruption will infiltrate both sooner or later.

21 months ago: Great Rant!

Back in the 80's John Nichols wrote the Millagro Beanfield Trilogy and it was made into a movie in 1988 by Redford. It is about how corporate/commercial interests divided up the water rights leaving no water left for the poor folks who just wanted to grow some beans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Milagro...

In North America water is threatened by mountaintop removal, by "Fracking" natural gas, in Canada from Tar sands. Corporations like Nestle have stolen water rights for a hundred years and are now busy bottling it and spreading the bottles all over the globe.

In third world countries the lack of sanitation and the factories dumping poisons in the water makes it dangerous to drink. One out of every eight people do not have access to safe water and 3.5 million people die each year from water borne disease.

All of the nations have been exhausting their aquifers by pumping out more than is replenished. This is already affecting farming and millions will starve because of this.

Solutions:

1. Sanitation. No sewers should drain into rivers. Tertiary treatment for all cities. Bill Gates is giving $41.5 million to develop new cheap composting toilets for the third world. http://medgadget.com/2011/07/bill-gates-...

Feedlots, pig farms, and other agriculture need to control waste and hopefully produce energy and good fertilizer without contaminating water supplies.

2. Toxins. No factories should be allowed to dump anything into the rivers. http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Truth-Abou...

3 water taken from rivers for drinking should be filtered and treated. In third world countries they can use cheap slow sand filters. http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_heal...

21 months ago: Al, where you say that Nations have been exhausting their aquifers...
Can you explain that to me.
We had a land survey done in Africa before the well was put in and the well has been a God sent.
This Community needs so much because as I said they are starting to farm and the water supply will probably need to be increased.

21 months ago: In the Third World Countries the Gov. indulge themselves and let the rest fade away. They can put wells in and get their economy started. They don't care about their Country or Countrymen as itt is about keeping the people down and the almighty $ in their pockets.
At least we were able to contribute a well, which helped the community. This is making me worry. They are starting to farm at this time which will make them more self sufficient.
I can't even imagine this happening here. The sad part is that it happens quietly and quickly, and before you know it, the water rights are privatized by large Corporations. It is a reality. Too much has been allowed to continue, and our Country is wearing the ragged results of neglect . We've been wide-open to this sort of take over and other things for many years. Al, when you say that "already nations have been exhausting their aquifiers by pumping out more than is replenished." Could you explain that to me.

21 months ago: Truth your Rant is very important. We are lucky that we have scientist and ecologist interested. It is a frightening situation. INFORMATION:
Wikipedia: WATER DESALINATION: The World is 3/4 ocean water.
Water is desalinated in order to convert salt water to fresh water so it is suitable for human consumption or irrigation. Sometimes the process produces table salt as a by-product. Desalination is used on many seagoing ships and submarines. Most of the modern interest in desalination is focused on developing cost-effective ways of providing fresh water for human use in regions where the availability of fresh water is, or is becoming, limited.

Large-scale desalination typically uses extremely large amounts of energy as well as specialized, expensive infrastructure, making it very costly compared to the use of fresh water from rivers or groundwater.[3]

However, along with recycled water this is one of the few non-rainfall dependent water sources particularly relevant to countries like Australia which traditionally have relied on rainfall in dams to provide their drinking water supplies.

The world's largest desalination plant is the Jebel Ali Desalination Plant (Phase 2) in the United Arab Emirates.

21 months ago: The problem that diseases once wiped out in America spread again to our Country because of lack of clean water. Lots of problems ahead.
Ground water isn't that pure any longer. There are areas in this Country that they tell you not to drink the water from the tap.
The video puts it on the line. If only people would listen. I hear what they are saying in the video that water is pumped out quicker than it is replenished.
Government barely recognizes environmental problems.

21 months ago: I was rafting one year on the Colorado River which is pure and clean. You don't see what is going on. We were at the base of the Hoover Dam, and I didn't realize all the problems until I saw this video. We do need a renewable supply because we will run out. The Dam is beautiful and awesome to look at, but I was looking at it through rose-colored glasses.
This is really scary. These Corporations have to be restricted from privatizing water rights.

21 months ago: Yuk! Is that what you said? That's a girly expression.
I don't think you can do that from the 9th Deck of a luxurious cruise ship that I've been on. I've been on a few nice ones. Never saw one on a river.
Those ships are too large for rivers. Anyway, with the wonderful and exquisite cuisine that one indulges in on every deck, I don't think you would be able to with the crew watching.
Maybe you have been drinking too much tap water. Do you know what you are drinking?
You mean on the deck of a ship where there is music and dancing and fireworks in the distance at midnight and all fun.
You mean while traveling on the blue seas of the Caribbean through the islands?
You haven't lived much have you?
You are very boring. Get a life.

21 months ago: Sunny,

I don't think we realize what is going to happen... if we lived in undeveloped countries we would have a better idea. It is sad that the life-blood (water) of a nation can be used as leverage to make nations give up their sovereignty.

21 months ago: Truth...
That is why I become concerned. We are right to be aware and question any hint or rumor of water take over and control.
We have a hands-on project in S. Africa, and we've become highly aware through the past years on what the problems have been. Aside from food shortages, these people are at the mercy of diseases which comes through food and water, such as, maleria (mosquitoes) and cholera. Schistosomiasis is another disease which is acquired from contaminated fresh water when bathing. This is why the people who are industrious are kept down in these countries because of not having what is rightfully theirs.
Globally, whoever controls water, controls life itself. That's scary thing to think about.
