The New York Post yesterday brought to light a controversy involving readings on Muslims and Christians that portrayed Christians as bigoted and repressive and conversely lauded Muslims as tolerant and cosmopolitan. The readings are as follows.

"Concerning Muslims:

* "Wherever they went, the Moslems [sic] brought with them their love of art, beauty and learning. From about the eighth to the eleventh century, their culture was superior in many ways to that of western Christendom.

* "Some of the finest centers of Moslem life were established in Spain. In Cordova, the streets were solidly paved, while at the same time in Paris people waded ankle-deep in mud after a rain. Cordovan public lamps lighted roads for as far as ten miles; yet seven hundred years later there was still not a single public lamp in London!"
Concerning Christians:

* "Idols, temples and other material evidences of paganism destroyed."

* "Christian buildings often constructed on sites of destroyed native temples in order to symbolize and emphasize the substitution of one religion by the other."

* "Indians supplied construction labor without receiving payment."

* "In a converted community, services and fiestas were regularly held in the church building."

The Board of Regents was slammed for displaying a bias against Christianity and deference to Muslims.Looking at the readings, there is not a single word of falsehood in them. There was indeed a time when Muslim Turkey and Egypt were havens for Jews fleeing Christian persecution. There were regular forced conversions to Christianity from other faiths, as well as burnings of the Talmud and of works by Christians deemed to be heretics.

Conversely, there was indeed a time when science and learning flourished in Muslim lands and in which a legal framework for some religious freedom existed.

There is a major problem with the Regents readings. Christianity has a 2000 year history and Islam has a 1400 year history. The sun of tolerance has risen and set many times in both faiths. Today, the politically dominant sects of Christianity do not force their faiths on non believers. Conversely, religious freedom is faring very badly in most of the Islamic world today. Religions other than Islam are illegal in Saudi Arabia. Christians are officially second class citizens in Egypt. The Christian population in the Arab world has been dwindling in the last 50 years because of institutionalized discrimination against non Muslims.

There was a time when Muslim lands were havens of refuge for Jews, and where Christians and Jews enjoyed a comfortable inequality. It should be noted that the Muslim world was not uniform in its attitude towards human rights. The family of Moshe ben Maimon, (Maimonides) had to flee one Muslim jurisdiction where they were forced to convert to Islam to Egypt, where Maimonides became a physician to the king.

There are sects of Christianity that died out because their adherents were murdered and their writings were burned. The followers of Arius, an early Christian leader who rejected trinitarianism were wiped out. Huguenots and Waldensians fared little better 1000 years later, although remnants of each sect survived the harsh persecutions.

Sunni and Shiite Muslims are famous for their persecutions of each other in areas where one has political or numerical dominance over the other . And who can forget the Ahmadiyya Muslims, who are outcasts in Pakistan and elsewhere?

The New York Board of Regents seems to have cherry picked centuries of Muslim and Christian history to present Muslims in a positive light and Christians in a negative light. Both Muslims and western secularists make of Christianity a common enemy.

An honest look at the history of the world's faiths that have achieved regional political dominance would show that there are periods of repression and of freedom in the history of each. Students of history would do well to find in each faith the textual and theological foundations of intolerance and of inclusiveness.

Additionally, external cultural, social, economic and political factors should be sought that cause believers to seek validation for either repressive or inclusive attitudes towards those who do not share their faith. If someone has a holy book with words of peace and words of war, what moves them to accentuate one verse over another? The Global History exam readings put together by the Board of Regents leaves many of these questions unasked.

It seems that there are parameters of discussion in American and European academia that are every bit as strict as any religion's articles of faith. It is tempting to label secular humanism as a new religion or at the very least a new political and social orthodoxy. Many would question whether secular humanism is a religion at all as much it is a sort of consensus. If indeed, secular humanism is a religion, they haven't invited me to their church or taught me their secret handshake. Since they don't believe in a hereafter, they can't threaten me with hell. But they can dock me points on the Regents Exam. I think I'm getting scared already.

17 months ago: The takeaway here is to avoid whitewashing any religion. It's disappointing but not surprising that those on the ideological left leave often rationality at the door when it comes to demonizing their cousins on the ideological right.

The fact is the Christian religious right has far more in common with the general conservatism of the Islamic religion than the political left has in common with either. For example, the Christian religious right and most branches of Islam are homophobic yet the far left will give Islam a free pass because it's not the focus on their ideological frothing.

If they were rational, they would be skewering any kind of religion that puts superstitious intolerance over science and rational thought. Civilization, art and science advanced despite religious zealotry not because of it.

In the history of every nation, race or religion, there is a time of greatness and a time of sorrow.

We need to understand that what we are today, is not what will be tomorrow.

I hope that we can escape and survive the time of sorrow, civil war and death, that may come to us.

We need to remove corruption in politics, in our courts and in congress or we will fail.

Right now we have a corporate government run by what they call "progressives", which is a nice word meaning communists or socialists.

We need to go back to the real organic common law constitution and restore America.

The mental and social behavior of: A communist, socialist, liberal, progressive, marxist, Leninist, etc., or any combination of the these, is only understood, by knowing what they have in common mentally and emotionally and in what they want and believe in:

They are a danger to us by their most common beliefs:

Anti-Self Defense, Anti-Second Amendment, Anti-Constitution, Anti-Real Constitutional History, Anti-Family Values, Anti-Business, Pro-Big Government, Pro-New World Order, Pro-Criminals, Anti-Natural Nutrients, Pro-Excessive Taxation, Pro-Excessive Federal Regulations, Pro-Abortion Or Anti-Life, Anti-Real Causes Of Illnesses And Pro-Symptom Cures, Anti-Natural Doctors And Pro-Symptom Doctors, Anti-God, Anti-Religion, Pro-Godless Cults, Anti-Patriotism, Pro-Corruption, and Pro-Immorality, Pro-Perversion, Pro-Bestiality, Etc., And Etc..

When We Have Commie Liberals In Control, We Don't Need Plagues, We Have The 666 To Rule Us.

By knowing how their sick minds work. Can you trust them? Do they ever tell the truth?

I tell it like it is, I pull no punches, tell no lies, and I am as I am

QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR HUMAN BEINGS TO ANSWER.

The Commie Bleeding Heart Liberal is the child molesters and rapists best friend and protector.

The Conservative American is the child molesters and rapists worst enemy.

To protect your women and children, who would you vote for?

Who would you believe, trust and support?

Not surprising at all given the current bent of this nation..

King David and Jesus come from the line of Isaac.

This is what the Bible says about Ismael.

Gen 16:11 And the angel of the LORD said to her, "Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the LORD has listened to your affliction.
Gen 16:12 He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen."

Sesostris, Cyrus, Pompey, and Trajan, all endeavored to conquer Arabia, but in vain. From the beginning to the present day they have maintained their independence, and God preserves them as a lasting monument of his providential care, and an incontestable argument of the truth of Divine Revelation. Had the Pentateuch no other argument to evince its Divine origin, the account of Ishmael and the prophecy concerning his descendants, collated with their history and manner of life during a period of nearly four thousand years, would be sufficient. Indeed the argument is so absolutely demonstrative, that the man who would attempt its refutation, in the sight of reason and common sense would stand convicted of the most ridiculous presumption and folly.
The country which these free descendants of Ishmael may be properly said to possess, stretches from Aleppo to the Arabian Sea, and from Egypt to the Persian Gulf; a tract of land not less than 1800 miles in length, by 900 in breadth; see Gen_17:20.

I think that the skewering of the Muslims has been ubiquitous and the selections of textbook content heavily skewed towards Christianity by things like the Texas School book board which determines textbooks for the nation, which is made up of evangelical activists.

Perhaps the regents bent over a bit too far in the other direction trying to find some good things about Islam amongst the almost universal demonization.

They also criticized the Regents for painting the Buddhists in a favorable light. When in their history did the Buddhists slaughter millions and cruelly torture those they considered sinners?

My doctor who is Iranian, asked me about Christianity, and excitedly excepted Jesus.

My auto repair garage, owned by a Muslim from Fiji, his daughter was dieing form cancer, I invited him to a Full Gospel businessmen meeting, we prayed that his daughter be healed as he stood in for his daughter, she was miraculously healed. They are now Christians.

17 months ago: Ed, sounds like one of those backhanded compliments; some Muslims are okay as long as they convert to your brand of Christianity.

Miraculous cancer healing eh? Curing cancer is a Benny Hinn special - if you google "benny hinn" cancer phony, you'll get 213,000 hits and for good reason. Cancer is not typically visible and so the religious healing huckster can lay their anointed "Jesus" hands on the patient and and shout 'You're Healed - PTL!" and wella.

If the miracle patient gets real medical treatment and the cancer is cured, the faith healers claim another 'miracle'. If not and the miracle patient eventually passes away, the phony healer gets a case of amnesia or call it the will of god.

My wife hit her knee and an infection was the result, at a hotel she said that it was becoming worst, I prayed for her, placing my hand on it. She felt a hand pull the infection up her leg and then it disappeared.

I have experience many supernatural things in my life, I will get back to my testimony soon. I have been trying to tell you guys that when you get close to this invisible God, you begin to step into the supernatural.
17 months ago: That is a wonderful testimony. Don' expect certain folk to understand or appreciate it.

I know this though, there are plenty of others who have read it and will read it. They may not chime in, but I know they were blessed by your sharing.

That's what really matters.
