Apparently He is Not OUR President.

It would appear to that that the man currently known as the President of the United States of America is confused about his title. I say this because since he has taken office he has gone to every enemy we have and apologized to them, handed out cute little reset buttons, bowed to dictators and tyrants alike. In the meantime back home he has not extended the same hand of diplomacy to the people who put him into office, and the people he is supposed to be serving.

Here we are in the middle of the worst recession in generation and the President of the United States of America has all but declared war on one his own states and his own people. Arizona passes a law ( as states are allowed to do) that Obama does not like so he attacks his own people. Cities in other states announce that they will be boycotting all commerce with the State of Arizona. Millions of dollars and thousands of jobs could be lost. Does the leader of the country come out and condemn that? Does the leader of the United States (Arizona included) start handing out reset buttons to the leaders of Los Angeles? Does he urge restraint, or perhaps state the the Federal Government is going to more to try and secure the borders of this country so that Arizona does not need to enforce its new law?

No, instead he gives stump speeches about the law implying that poor little Mexicans immigrants out for ice-cream are going to get harassed by the police and asked for their papers thus launching the signs on May Day showing the Arizona Governor as a Nazi.

Morons! If Arizona was Nazi Germany and the Arizona Sheriffs department was Nazi Germany poor little Pablo would have been put in a train with his mommy, daddy, grandma, and grandpa shipped to Auschwitz and gassed. All Arizona wants to do is send the illegal immigrants back to their own country of origin so that they can try it again the right way.

I never thought I would see a sitting American President so unabashedly trash is own county in front of the world. And to what end? Iran is thumbing it's nose in his face and announcing that they can wipe out Israel in a week. North Korea is sinking ships of it's enemy in the south with torpedoes! Other countries like Brazil and Venezuela are openly allying themselves with our enemies.

So let me be the first to apologizes to the rest of the world for Barack Obama, and say with confidence that he is not my President because in no way does he represent me.

So keeping in context, who does represent you, in his place? Are you denouncing the Presidency from now on, or just until that man leaves office? Is the relationship totally over, or is there some sort of redemptive action he could do to regain your trust and representation?
I'm not going to sling the normal "But look what Bush did" talking point, but I would like to know: Do you consider him better, worst, or the same as his predecesor? And lastly, has he done ANYTHING correct, acceptable or right since taking office, or is he the baby AND the bathwater?
I'm asking, because I just had the same conversation this weekend with a friend and asked the same questions, to which he repeatitively responded... He just sucks.
I'm looking to establish the barometer.
24 months ago: That's a good question. And I would say hands down Obama is far worse than Bush was. The reason being that when we went to war the vast majority of the country was behind him. So he didn't just tell the American people to F-off and go to war anyway, like Obama is doing with his policies. Bush never attacked or insulted private citizens, or companies the way Obama does. He addressed his critics at times, and at other ignored them. My beef with both of them was their constant retort that they do not look at the polls. Maybe if they had Bush would have left far more popular and Obama would not be about to become a lame duck 2 years into is first and hopefully only turn.

Has Obama done anything acceptable? No...not a thing. And more to the point he has gone against almost every populist campaign promise he made and has become "Washington", the very same that he campaigned against. Which brings me to my last point that the man was and is grossly unqualified to be President under good conditions, and even less under current simply because he has never run anything in his life. All he has is his ideology and the people to tell him how to make it happen. Making it happen is all he cares about which is why he is willing to sacrifice as many political careers as he has to so that he can get the job done.

Go back to the polls leading up to an following the election. What were the primary concerns of the American People? The war, the economy and jobs and immigration were at the top of the list with the economy and jobs moving further and further up the closer we got to the election. Healthcare reform was a democrat issue that barely registered amongst the country as a whole, yet the president spent a year and half on it while the economy is still in the tank and we are about to hit a double dip recession.

So frankly he has not done anything since taking office except for taking over GM, raising the national debt by billions and enacting healthcare reform, which even if you support, you aren't going to benefit from it until 2014.

To answer your question about who represents me...it would appear that would be no-one.

I have SOME issues with President Obama, but all in all, I like his actions so far as a prez.
But again, I can respect your position.
I think that once we can evaluate our politicians without the tint glass of partitianship then both presidents will be valued at their proper levels.
Good post tho.

Such as
Prez. Obama attacking Arizona. While he has clearly stated that he is going to closely monitor the developments in Az, I wouldn't say he has attacked them.
The comment about more Americans supporting the war, than Health Care and less opposition for the war than Health Care is not entirely accurate. In fact it's more perspective. Depending in who'se poll you trusted, there was an overwhelming support for healthcare and an equally overwhelming opposition for the Iraq war.
And anyone who has fallen victim of warrantless wiretaps or imminent domain under Pres Bush might not agree with your assessment that Bush never went after Americans.

24 months ago: ...While he has clearly stated that he is going to closely monitor the developments in Az...

Here you go. If the Arizona Law was unconstitutional then file a suit and bring it before the SCOTUS. They will laugh it out of the court as it follows the U.S.C.

Obama needs to follow more improtant things right now besides how many illeagle aliens might be out of work.
24 months ago: Good point Harshaw. He has bent over backwards it seems to spread good will and apologize even to those who will likely use it against us. Could he not use some of this here at home? If he is so ready to make apologies could he not apologize for Congress not getting a comprehensive immigration package together?
Great post. I don't know that I agree with the Arizona law but it is ironic that so many on the left said of Obama "at least he is doing something" when it came to health care yet when Arizona is trying to "do something" out of desperation the left breaks out the torches and pitchforks.

He has also tried diplomacy here at home but has been rebuffed at every turn by the Republicans who made a political decision to oppose anything he or the Democrats attempted regardless of need or virtue of the legislation.

When he criticized the Arizona legislation he said that what we need is a comprehensive immigration Plan but he said he needs just a few Republicans to help pass it.

McCain who used to be a strong supporter and indeed an author of comprehensive immigration reform has turned against it for purely political reasons.

Obama did listen to the American people.

"What were the primary concerns of the American People? The war, the economy and jobs and immigration were at the top of the list with the economy and jobs moving further and further up the closer we got to the election."

OK so lets look at what he did in the 1st 100 days: -- Passed a $787 billion economic stimulus plan. 1/3rd of which was tax cuts, and the rest of which was jobs creation.
-- Unveiled a series of measures to help troubled banks, homeowners and small businesses.
-- Reversed many Bush-era initiatives, such as detention policies and harsh interrogation practices.
-- Increased the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
-- Announced a plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.
-- Overturned a Bush-era policy that limited federal tax dollars for embryonic stem cell research.
-- Proposed a 2010 budget that included key energy, education and health care programs.
Obama passed health care legislation, he got an international nuclear agreement passed and he convinced Russia and China to support sanctions against Iran, and has an energy bill winding its way through the halls of Congress.

You are right that he didn't listen to the people because 67% of the people said they wanted single payer health care or at the very least a public option. In every decision Obama has rebuffed the left and has taken a more conservative position.

When you see polls of the 40 something percent that don't like Obama's policies you assume that everyone that doesn't like him share the same opinions of the vocal 18% Tea Party minority, but many of those disapprovals come from the left because he is not nearly populist enough.

Politicop I feel sorry for all of the police in Arizona who now have to worry about every Joe Sixpack in the state second guessing every thing they do, and being able to sue him if he isn't intolerant enough. I think the cops have more experience and know how to do their jobs without that worry.

24 months ago: @Politicop I'll meet you half way on the polls. I went back and looked at the ones I could find online from 2008. Most of the ones i could find showed healthcare to be predominantly a democrat priority.

As far as Arizona goes, as the President of the United States his lack of condemnation to the cities that are threatening economic boycotts, and lack of public rebuke for the head of I.C.E. who all but said he would not deport any illegals sent from Arizona, is as good as an endorsement in my book.

@ Altruist How do you figure that Obama has earned more respect? North Korea instead of just threatening war is sinking ships that belong to South Korea. Iran is moving full steam ahead with it's nuclear program with the full backing of Russia and China who will ensure that no meaningful sanctions are enforced, add in latest deal between Iran Turkey and Brazil (who are supposed to be on our side) to "Swap Fuel" I think we have a proverbial F-You going on from the rest of our allies.

I believe it was Machiavelli who said "let them hate me, provided that they also fear me." I the case of the United States, they still hate us, but now they have no fear of us.

"-- Unveiled a series of measures to help troubled banks, homeowners and small businesses."

Which is why forclosers are peaking again, and about 80% of those "remodified mortgages' are back in foreclosure. The price of lumber is down 26% from last april and new construction is a the lowest level since 2008. There are 775 banks on the "trouble list" and unemployment spiked up again this month.

"-- Reversed many Bush-era initiatives, such as detention policies and harsh interrogation practices."

To words "Prolonged Detention" there may be a group of people that cannot be prosecuted for past crimes, maybe because of tainted evidence, but who none the less pose a threat to the Security of the United States." That's Obama's baby.

"-- Announced a plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq."

Which ended up being Bushes exit plan. As I recall he was supposed to have them out the day after he was sworn in.

"Obama passed health care legislation, he got an international nuclear agreement passed and he convinced Russia and China to support sanctions against Iran, and has an energy bill winding its way through the halls of Congress." That's just dead wrong the whole paragraph.

"-- Proposed a 2010 budget that included key energy, education and health care programs."

And has increased government spending so much that the country is about to suffer a massive economic collapse. Seen the stock market today?

"You are right that he didn't listen to the people because 67% of the people said they wanted single payer health care or at the very least a public option. In every decision Obama has rebuffed the left and has taken a more conservative position."

You crack me up. Show me a single poll from November of 2009 to now that shows those numbers. On the other hand how about his personal approval ratings that are down to 44%.

At any rate my friend you are starting to sound less like the intellectual I know you to be, and more like a paid shill who is told to cut and paste talking points into web forums.

24 months ago: It amazes me when critics like you take a look and decide the situation you live in has been caused, not by yourself, not by your parents or the previous generation. But by someone who has nudged a really really horrible situation, one of chaos and worthless currency, into a more reasonable situation.

From "America disliked everywhere", Obama has created "America at least tolerated in most of the world". From "Global Depression", Obama has created, "global difficulty, with some possibility of prosperity in the future".

You are mis-evaluating some of your data by giving it too much weight. And making too light of other of your data and so arriving at misunderstanding.

Your piece sounds more like an angry person's rant, than an informed citizen's conclusions.

24 months ago: Here is a history of polls which indicate support for a single payer system. http://pnhp.org/blog/2009/12/09/two-thir...

Recent polls ask if people approve of the current or proposed health care plan. Half of the disapproval is from the left because it doesn't include single payer or at least a public option. Most of the cost cutting measures have been eliminated to appease the right.

Our President signed the nuclear pact with Russia: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/09/world/...
He also got 46 other nations to control their nuclear materials better to keep them out of terrorist hands http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...
He also got an agreement with Australia: http://nuclear-news.net/2010/05/07/obama...
The fifth Summit of the Americas with the thirty-four members of the Organization of American States (OAS) was also a success:http://www.affaires-strategiques.info/spip.php?article1148
There are many other diplomatic successes. I'm proud of a record like that and few other presidents have an equal record.

If we end up with a double dip recession is would be partly because the right refused to make the stimulus large enough even though most economists agreed Congresses efforts were too small.

But the stock market insecurity is mostly about Europe. Bush thought deficits didn't matter and just borrowed to pay for his wars and tax cuts. Europe looked at the US and said if they can do it why can't we? Reaganomics started the myth and Bush compounded it, that we can get everything without paying for it. We all need to become fiscally responsible again like we were under Clinton with budget surpluses projected indefinitely into the future.

So what...it is not a pact, but a treaty, atreaty that has not and will not be ratified by the Senate, nor will be accepted by the equivalent Russian body.
