According to the BBC a teacher was killed in a German School Attack. This is not the first attack in Germany as there were two others last year as well.
Germany of course is not the only country who has seen these tragic unwarranted attacks happen. In the United States there have been many, 80+ since 1966 . In Europe there has been more than a dozen. In Canada we have seen many as well.
As a young girl I recall the shooting in 1975 at Brampton Centennial Secondary School in Canada. I lived in the neighboring town. I drove by that school often with my family. I recall wondering what I would do if that happened in my school. I remember the day the school reopened, how would these kids feel returning to this school. I would be so afraid.
Tragedies like these are devastating for the lives of the families that have lost a son, daughter, spouse, sister, friend. They are also a tragedy for all of us left behind. As they instill fear into our minds. Fear that can be debilitating.
My heart goes out to the families that have suffered such a tragic loss. My heart goes out to the students, teachers, and communities. The answers we do not have . Why ,Why, Why.
Do we need stricter gun controls? Should we use profiling, watch out for students we think may be trouble ? Would police presence in our schools help? Is it to easy for people to walk in and out of our schools?
We have so many questions and no real answers. Yet it is certainly a problem that is on our mind these days as violence in our school system seems to be on the increase.
