Don “Moose” Lewis, the head of the “All-American Basketball Alliance” has pulled a fast one on the Augusta Chronicle and the Internet. His all-white basketball league is clearly a publicity stunt – he’s making a splash, but the non-existent league doesn’t have a website, sponsors, or a single player.

Check out the Augusta Chronicle’s story: they cite a press release and one phone interview as the sources. Translation: they got an email and dialed the number listed at the top.

An all-white basketball league makes for a nice inflammatory story, so local news teams ran to the mayor’s office and lobbed a few softball questions. “Do you welcome an all-white basketball league in your town?” This isn’t exactly news, people.

The “league commissioner” is probably making a statement – Don Lewis typed up and sent his e-mail on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. His comments to the newspaper smelled of craziness, too – especially that white Americans are “the minority.” To top it off, Don Lewis is a former (read: out-of-work) wrestling promoter, so he probably knows a thing or two about news cycles and manufactured statements.

Alarm bells are ringing, Willie.

I’m not going to repost the racist’s silly quotes about “street ball” and “people of color.” That would be giving him the attention he desires.

So if you get an email about the new all-white basketball league, delete it, and warn the sender not to send you any more forwards. Good riddance to stupid racists.
