The votes are in and tabulated. And Adam Lambert looses the AI crown. Did Adam loose because he was less popular? No. Did he loose because he was less talented? No. He lost because American Idol let a few thousand dedicated fans cast millions of votes:
- According to AT&T, 38 million votes came from Arkansas, that's about 40% of the total vote. Even more votes from Arkansas residents where placed in other time zones.
- The #1 Kris Allen fansite, krisallennation.com, organized thousands of people to vote for 8 hours and run up big totals. From this site:
"UPDATE: 105 people who have reported their votes voted a staggering 436,650 times last night. That's an average of 4,158 votes per person. Keep reporting your votes and we'll keep updating."
- Fans increased their voting power by calling from multiple time zones using Gizmo and Go phones.
- One fan used 3 Go phones can set up a call list of 20 people and generate 40,000 text votes in one night. There are many people who reported doing this.
- Many fans from outside the US voted. International voting via Gizmo was actively promoted on Kris fan sites.
The American Idol producers could have rejected the votes of these mass texters and the votes that came through Gizmo, but they didn't. Once again proving that there is no integrity to AI voting and that the published voting rules don't matter.
Why not? Because the vote result doesn't matter, they only care about giving the impression it matters. Plus, since Kris won over Adam they get 2 high-selling artists instead of just one. Like Daughtry, Adam will go on to sell millions, everyone already knows this, and he IS under contract regardless (the top 12 all are). So the AI producers double their sales by having someone ELSE win (has been done many times before) and give the "Idol Winner" title boost to someone who needs the title for the extra sales.
American Idol is not a talent competition, it is a very carefully orchastrated realty TV show. A realty TV show that has become tired and predictable. A realty TV show that will continue to drop in the ratings. And has lost at least one more viewer.
