Abortion: A Necessary Evil

Abortion NEEDS to stay legal. Now that Barack's in office, I know it will. At least for another four years. I read that there are about two million abortions in the U.S. yearly. Most are by the same women each year, because they are stupid enough to get pregnant over and over, but smart enough to know that they would be terrible Mothers. This is because they are drug-addicts, sex-addicts, mentally ill, very young, or any combination of the aforementioned conditions. Also, many couples choose to terminate fetuses that are discovered to have severe disabilities while still very early in the pregnancy. In my opinion, this saves the potential child from a lifetime of misery. Additionally, many women have one because the pregnancy or birth would be very risky for their own physical health. It is not a pretty thing. In fact it's downright disgusting. It keeps population lower though. Plus, a lot of these women would be adding to the welfare rolls if they kept the fetus. I stand FIRM in my beliefs. Violent crime went down SIGNIFICANTLY with the advent of Roe v. Wade (I know correlation does not equal causation, but nice coincidence). This sounds crass, but if your situation is demanding an abortion, then you might as well think of your fetus as a parasite rather than a potential human. The only time I think it is wrong to have an abortion is if the fetus is so far along that it could LIVE outside of the body and develop NORMALLY. For those mistakes, we have adoption. I am an agnostic, so many of you will be cursing me to Hell, but I'll come right back at you.

We know women with high blood pressure that did die in pregnancy and chose their path. In the 21st Century, I hope your loved ones are not turned away from quality doctor care. Someone I know was after being stalked and raped by a policeman. She was luckier than others and survived. Notice exodus describes no penalty for women who choose to terminate pregnancy, nor does any Bible passage. Jesus stated, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”
I don't see too many women leaving the number of children they have up to someone else. My grandmother seems to have left it up to God and is said to have had 18 pregnancies, which was her choice.
140 million orphan children and their mothers would love to be valued as much as unborn are advertised. Notice most “Pro-Lifers” act as if life ends at birth. Are you willing to adopt orphan children or help mothers keep their children?
One of my relative almost orphaned 7 children while delivering a fetus that hadn't a skull. She was allowed choices.

In medicine, a fetus becomes a baby when it take its first breath. Then, its siblings recognize it and it's named, christened, given citizenship, and celebrates its birthday. The value of a embryo or fetus is up to the person doing the work to create the new being. Unless you're willing to become a surrogate, the only way to give rights to embryos and fetuses is to take away the rights of men, women, and children.

Please value women and her born children.

At the time, I did not have much thought about it as a child; trying to allign myself with the medical tenets mentioned above "becomes a baby when it takes its first breath". I did not enjoy the experience, but I KNEW that bringing a child into the world, in my body, would be a disservice. Even if the child somehow ended up ok, physically, were I to have raised them, it would have been a disaster. I doubt I could carry a child to term and give it up. So I believe that I did the best I could at the time. I believe every woman should have this option; and if the right is taken away, the abortions will continue, in secret, by less than experienced people, risking the mothers life and her freedom. They wont simply stop being performed.
41 months ago: As a fundamentalist Christian, I'm completely and deeply horrified by the idea of abortion, and anyone who would do it. But you know, I'm tired of this debate and the fighting. I'm willing to drop it and work together to reduce the number of them through more cooperative means.

Good thing that there are not only two choices for future parents in these situations.

A mother who is unwilling or unable to raise a child, should put the child up for adoption. Plain and simple, and better for everyone involved.

Some say it's too hard to give up their baby? Could it be harder than infanticide?

Perhaps more effort, time and money should be put into improving and perfecting the adoption system, than continuing to go around in circles on the abortion question.

I'm not saying I'm for or against abortion, I'm saying as a man, I can't fathom what it would feel like to be in that situation. I do find it funny that most people who are against abortion are for the death penalty. Huh!
41 months ago: amishking. I completely agree and have made the same observation. God decides who lives or dies. For man to kill is a sin. It's not "thou shalt not kill unless a secular judge decides it's OK". The commandment is simply "thou shalt not kill". But you know, too many Christians don't understand their own text.

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

41 months ago: That makes no sense, Amish and WhyMania. If you are not able to stop and think what it would be like to be a woman in a given situation, how are either of you ever going to have healthy, long-term relationships with them??? But I guess at least WhyMania arbitrarily decides the Pastor of his church is giving the literal policies of "God". I'll be blunt guys, abortion's been around for thousands of years. It's not hard to kill a fetus if you really want to, but it is dangerous (coat hangers, poisons, etc.) without a physician. That's why it needs to stay legal. Because we don't need a million more latchkey kids born into environments (in the U.S.), where they are guaranteed to be failures at life while sucking billions of dollars of welfare money. There aren't even enough foster-homes for American children, most orphans live in group homes (orphanages). Only the cutest, healthiest babies are adopted, and while very young. Hardly anyone wants to adopt kids that are already past a horrible infancy because they were left at the hospital and put into group homes.
38 months ago: I completely agree with you, Printman. I think if the adoption and foster care sytem were fixed, then there would be a lot less abortions. And to argue that it is harder to give up a baby than it is to have an abortion is ridiculouse.
