Representatives Barbara Lee (D-Ca.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.), along with the American 99ers Union, will be holding a press conference tomorrow to announce their re-introduction of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would retroactively add 14 additional weeks to the Tier 1 (20 week) federal unemployment extension, and the 99ers will finally receive some much needed relief if it is passed.

"Our bill would add 14 weeks of emergency unemployment benefits and would make sure these benefits are retroactively available to people who have exhausted all their benefits and are still unemployed", said Representative Lee about the bill.

However, despite previous reports, Lee's office has stated that they don't have a plan to pay for the additional unemployment extension. This means that, unless Lee and Scott come up with a way to offset the cost of the proposed extension by tomorrow, the bill isn't expected to get very far in the Republican controlled House.

Regardless, the 99ers must take this opportunity to show their numbers, and be heard. We need to call, email, and fax our "representatives" non-stop for the next 24 hours. Faxes are the most effective, then phone calls, and then emails. Be sure to contact their home offices as well as their offices in Washington. We have to flood them with our message, and let them know that the 99ers aren't backing down, and will not be forgotten. America's 99ers need this unemployment extension, and they need it now!

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but I doubt this will ever make it to the floor for a Vote and if it did it would no doubt fail.

This past December Obama gave the Republicans the continued Bush Tax Cuts for their millionaire and billionaire buddies. The Republicans in turn gave Obama 13 more months of funding for EUC Tiers I to IV. The Republicans surely have not forgotten this and they will let us know that they are "behind unemployed Americans 100%" which is "why" they passed that law.

There is NO Tier V coming. I wish there were, there are millions of Americans that need a break, but it's not going to happen.

Maybe. Giving up is just not an option for most, though.

Why don't the American 99er's show the same passion? Oh sure we send a couple of emails to our House and Senate members, but the messages are simply blocked. We place calls to the same Congress people and a 20 year intern runs interference. We start a blog, or two, or three, but no one reads them except other 99er's. We can sit back and do nothing and that's exactly what will happen, nothing. Sure we want a Tier 5, but are we willing to protest or take action for it? Probably not, THAT WOULD TAKE AN EFFORT. Why should Congress listen to us, we're not doing anything. No major network has picked up on our story, nor placed us in the homes of American's nightly. We are absolutely no threat to the government what so ever. We continue to allow the Department of Labor to report their concocted unemployment reports and sit back and say "oh well, what can I do"? Depending on who's report you read there's anywhere from 1 to 15 million 99er's. Many 99er's out there helped to form the non-violent protest movements, the love-in's, or the sitting in's. I AM NOT SUGGESTING VIOLENCE HERE, but why haven't 99er's packed the National Mall in D.C.? Let's show America exactly how many there are of us. Shatter the government's unemployment numbers. If we continue to take the same measures we are taking now, we are going to get the same results we have now. Nothing. The 99er's biggest problem . . . getting up from our comfort zone and taking action!
