Lots of talk, and not so much walk. I told a few people that I would get back with the results of my contacting Churches and individuals in every State of the Union... I was disappointed. Is it that this issue is unimportant? is it that these organizations are doing all they can?? or is it that everyone has come to the end of their resources and don't have an answer to this huge problem???

I sent out over 1000 e-mails and received back less than a handful. AND by the national results... that is about accurate for all attempts to get much needed answers. I still think that economic stimulus is best placed in the hands of small business. IF you pay one person for another 99 weeks, you fed a family for the same duration... if you help one person start a small business for the cost of 2-3 99ers, you could feed multiples more in wages and spin-off commerce.

A few tips for those who may be interested in starting a small business...
there are Seven Pitfalls of Business Failure:
http://www.businessknowhow.com/startup/b...

I maintain that Unemployment benefits across the board is "good money after bad" and there is a greater benefit for those who do have the skills to run a small business, as well as those around them if efforts were increased in this area. If the government wants to toss the money around... make community improvement projects. Even in developing an poor countries South of us employ people to sweep streets and cut grass by hand-tool if necessary. I don't know if we are ready for that yet.

I wonder if the unemployed would like a job that involved touching s---f with their hands... or if they would like to do manual labor just to get off unemployment? I think to some degree there are those who enjoy the benefits without the responsibility. We all seem to have a pride that prevents us from doing those things that may be beneath us... I could be wrong. Ye, this in no way diminishes the responsibilities of Government to assist their own citizens before doling out foreign aid.

I sure hope that the increased attention to this problem will cause a movement toward solutions... but it will take more than my 1000 e-mails. One would think that if Facebook and other social media could be used to topple an entire government, the same media could be used in a constructive way to blast attention in the right direction!

I don't get, nor want a cent to post this or anything, so don't let that be an issue...
let's see how much attention this and other posts can get by our total influence in this world. Even if we all just got back a response of less than a handful... it is a good start!

I fear though, that it will take more than sentiment and electronic messaging to create change. It seems only when the rubber hits the road in protest or demonstration that it makes the news. I just pray that the demonstrations aren't incited to violence. That would be just the excuse some are waiting for, to expose "Democracy" and reveal what it really is like out here in the West.

More Liberty, less licence...
More Freedom, less forms...
More Blessings, less bureaucracy...
Even if you get MORE financial support from the government,
you may get less cooperation from your State, you may have to come to Canada!

Again, I stressed this many times, when you are forced to take these lower level jobs when you are an accomplished person, they make you suffer for it. You don't fit in first of all. They constantly harass you because they feel small. They get a good laugh from the fact that you are smart and educated and do anything they can to make your life miserable. I know someone like this and is going through a very bad time, not that they aren't willing to do lower level work, but it is actually making them physically sick. The environment, the treatment, the unhealthy conditions, chemicals and fumes in the air. You work hard to keep your health all your life than suddenly you are thrown out in the cold exposed to all these life threatening things. With no health coverage, you don't have a chance. It has nothing to do with pride.
14 months ago: Sunny2,

I understand what it means to work in adverse conditions, but I want to explore your comment, you mentioned...

"...environment, the treatment, the unhealthy conditions, chemicals and fumes in the air. You work hard to keep your health all your life than suddenly you are thrown out in the cold exposed to all these life threatening things. With no health coverage, you don't have a chance"

...many work in these conditions too... and they would have liked to have had the privilege of keeping their health, but life has been dumping on them for a while longer. I am not saying this is OK or ideal that accomplished people take diminished jobs... but if that is all there is, it shouldn't be beneath them. It may not in every case have to do with pride... fear may be the ruling factor.

14 months ago: I also want to add I have worked for some pretty big companies, and they are not exempt from breaking rules when it comes to people being treated right and conditions being safe. Some of these companies have hostile environments that the person who wants only to work and do a good job is treated worse and is only a number. The biggest companies can be the worse offenders because they think they are untouchable.
14 months ago: Sunny2,

Solid! This is the voice that needs to be sent out! I appreciate your response, and if more people heard it more in turn would think it was important. What you are saying doesn't take away from someone else's plight, it just explains yours. Why I wrote this was to reveal that many in America aren't giving this unemployment issue the attention that it needs... with long-term solutions.

This is America one can be whatever they want to be, so they say.
I hope this is true, and we never lose sight of this.

14 months ago: Thanks Truthbrary. Sometimes it takes guts to say things, but if it explains enough to help others, then the truth is worth it. I think a lot of people feel this way. I'm baffled as to what is really going on with the unemployment issue. I would never not be understanding to whatever anyone is going through. It's tough in many different situations.
14 months ago: If there is a silver-lining in all this, it is that people are a bit more understanding and compassionate about the hardships of unemployment or having to work "dirty-jobs for food" ...just to survive. Hopefully the country will work and fight together to make a better future... without looking down on "expendable" people in "nowhere" jobs. It takes all of us in every job, dirty or not, to keep this ball rotating... this hardship like in the thirties produced a better character and quality of people.

14 months ago: Sure, because we have to stay together as a "Team." I don't think our life spans are long enough to make so many errors in judgment while bringing this Country to its knees. What are we gaining if we don't give others a fighting chance? It would be nice on these not so good jobs if bosses would at least refer to an employee by name instead of the using "You". I mean "You." It is shocking, especially when they can utilize the person's talent to change working conditions and advance their business. Instead of resenting skill and talent, they should respect it.

14 months ago: From what I've heard and seen documented, this is similar to the 30's. For a Country such as ours to go backwards after coming so far and losing so much to get there for the sake of keeping it safe and strong is wrong and frightening. Let us all hope that people's character will go to a higher place and unite for the good of everyone. These expendable people to one person, who unfortunately doesn't care, are the very blood and fiber of our Nation that hold it together.

1 month ago: Truth, it is still very bad.
A couple of days ago I saw a guy in his late 40s sitting in his car, and he was talking on the phone very upset because his unemployment benefits ran out. He was saying how he didn't know where to turn and that his father could'nt help him. He was crying his heart out. I never felt so badly for anyone.
There is no work for these people.
1 month ago: Yeah Sunny,

it doesn't seem to be getting any better, people are having to get creative doing jobs they weren't really trained for. That has happened to me a few times, and it can be quite the learning curve, we just can't give up.

Something like 20% or more unemployment.
I don't know what is going to happen.
