"MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - 72-year-old Dick Thompson isn't sure if he wants to fight or give up... Thompson faces eviction from his 38 acres in Madison County. The county lawyer tells 24-Hour News 8 it's because Thompson is breaking too many rules, laws and ordinances; Thompson has no water, no sewer and no electricity in his recreational trailer that he calls home."

"Oh, but these un-American government thugs seem to feel they have every right to force this unoffensive citizen to do what they want him to do. Our country has strayed very far from the land of liberty it once was if a man cannot even live on his own land, bothering no one, without government thugs harassing him."

This is the epitome of life in the land of the "free" ...owning your own retirement property only to be evicted! Harassing and bullying an elderly man so much that he looses his desire to keep his property. Tossed out for being truly independent...
one better think twice about fantasies of living "off the grid"
...don't get your freedoms go to your head, and remember your DEBT TO SOCIETY!

This is the NEW WORLD BOYS!

21 months ago: Maybe they just don't like people that don't need or want their handouts.
21 months ago: Equal treatment under the law.

Allowing one person to maintain his hovel without water sewer etc would allow everyone to do so. do you want to live next to the guy that just dumps his raw sewage in a hole?

It's not hard to find isolated stories like this. But this is the exception not the rule. And the rule states that all Americans are equal and subject to equal treatment under the law. If the law stated he has to maintain healthy living conditions then he like the rest of us must either comply or deal with the issues that arrive from non compliance. He has options, solar power. Septic system, etc etc.
21 months ago: Have a heart Slim,

the guy has over 30 acres... you couldn't see his mess anywhere near a public road, let alone smell it! I grew up on a homestead in the north... outhouse and all! Seriously, our nations have forgotten how they got here, and who it was that paid the price!
