The 112th Congress was sworn in today...which was followed by the immediate flip flop of the Republicants. That whole "We promise to cut $100m" was apparently just hypothetical. Ah...I can smell the beatdown of 2012 already...I can't wait for the country saving hate filled GOP to destroy themselves and get completely swept out of congress (except for the redneck havens of the deep south). Not to worry though, just 2 years to survive, and with only 1/3 control of government they shouldn't be able to accomplish much besides self destruction. What a great day!!!

The incoming congressmen and women know that they must be for a
longterm extension, job creations and COLA's or they will be put out
before their term is up.

Wow, it's funny that the "redneck havens of the deep south" are among the few areas that have been largely untouched by the recession. They must know something that the "enlightened north and left coast" don't know. Right now, business is booming here. How are things in your neck of the woods?

So this: http://tinyurl.com/3v2c5w

That is a booming economy huh?

If by untouched you mean that the fact that the rampant poverty, lack of jobs, and pathetic education system haven't gotten worse then I suppose the recession hasn't done much to the deep south.

Looks to me like Illinois and my state mirror each other pretty much exactly on all fields you mentioned. Your unemployment rate is significantly higher, your dropout rate is slightly higher than ours, our graduation rate is slightly lower than yours. We don't have nearly as many gangs and other organized crime.

I would say our quality of life is much better, less stress, and a much better place to raise kids. I've lived in the north, south, and in between. This is where I chose to live.

Southern Illinois is basically a different state...we really don't care much about them, especially since 10 million out of the 13 million people in Illinois live north of I-80.

All I can say is that I cannot express in words how happy I am that I don't live in nor was I educated in the South.

16 months ago: Also:

Unemployment rates:

Illinois: 9.6%
Alabama: 9.0%
Mississippi: 9.9%
Louisiana: 8.2%
Georgia: 10.1%
Kentucky: 10.2%
Texas: 8.2%
Arizona: 9.4%
Tennessee: 9.4%
South Carolina: 10.6%

Oh yes..."Significantly higher" in Illinois...than what? Texas is 1.4% lower...most other states are basically the same or higher than Illinois...hmmm...

You can keep it. You have much more up there than we do down here.

That last one is especially telling for the bastion of human enlightenment.
Typical Liberal snobbery.
16 months ago: I have only seen Chicago twice in the last 15 years. Both impressions told me it was a city of dirt. Even the dirt was dirty. You couldn't find enough water and soap locally to feel clean. My guess is that they were counting on the new defunct Chicago Climate Exchange... You know like the other one they manipulate... That other one is called the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Where they just push paper around to inflate prices that the entire world pays. Oh yeah. The defunct Carbon Credits were to be traded on the Chicago MERC. How convenient.
16 months ago: What state in your list has the lowest? Discount Louisiana as they still have millions of Katrina trash on other state roles.

Yeah I would say there is a big difference between 9.6 and 8.2....

The Obama (your Chicago) administration seems to tout on a single 1/10 tenth of a percentage move when it is in their favor. I see 14/10 tenths of a difference between Illinois and Texas. That number would probably be larger if the Chicago Administration didn't force 10s of thousands of gulf state workers to be laid-off with their oil drilling moratorium.

What do you think the December 2010 or the January 2011 numbers will show?
